USB PIC Programmers

I recently bought a USB driven PIC programmer and some of the issues I found may be helpful to others. The particular model I bought was an ICD2 type device however some of the issues will be common to a number of these programmers. The ICD2 software performs a self-test and this showed that the programming voltage was too low. If you have a non-intelligent USB programmer then measure the voltage with a meter. Reviewing the Internet I found that a number of postings suggested that these devices need a seperate power supply. I built a regulator which provided 5V from a bench supply and fed that into the USB power wires. This worked fine however, as the USB lead was very thin, I wondered if it was simply suffering too much voltage loss.Replacing the poor quality USB lead with a high quality one allowed the programmer to be powered from the PC without additional power.Even with the new USB lead I found that itfailed to program most of the time. The fault was diagnosed down to the other leads supplied. The lead that joins the programmer to the board contains the ZIF socket uses the RJ11 plugs. The quality of the plugs and line was fine however the crimp was bad. Re-crimping the plugs solved the problem.Overall the quality of the programmer itself and the ZIF boards is very good but the leads are, at best, indifferent. Even with the lead issue, these Chinese PIC programmers are excellent value for money.

WARNING: The real truth about Fakes / Replicas and Ebay

Most shoppers have been tempted to fake it. It might be a football shirt, a pair of sunglasses or a designer watch or handbag, but we are all attracted to replica goods. And these days, it's so easy to buy a fake. There's probably a range of rip-offs on offer at your local weekend market. Some people go on a counterfeit shopping spree when they are on holiday. Or there's the internet, where several sites openly advertise the sale of fake goods.Take Watchreplica.co.uk, for example. It's a slick operation and boasts the use of genuine Swiss parts. You can pick up a "high-quality replica" watch for a fraction of the price of the real thing. I browsed the site this week and could have bought a replica Patek Philippe Twenty-4 Black Dial ladies watch for

Like the writers of other Zune guides, I'm a convert from iPods. I firstly had a 30Gb iPod Video, which, like most folks, made me swoon when I first got my hands on it ! 'Oh just look at the lovely chrome backplate !', 'Oh, the satisfying clicking of the jogwheel !'. Unfortunately, this was before I had the iTunes experience... what a nightmare that software is ! Have you ever tried to get your stuff back off your iPod if it's been deleted from your computer ? I won't spoil your fun by telling you how much you'll love that particular experience... and your lovely chrome backplate will no doubt be scratched to hell by now too... And as for the joys of watching video in teenyweenyeyestrain-o-vision... well, nuff said. I also own a 4Gb 2nd gen nano, which I loved until it had juice spilled on it and now the jog wheel has seizures when you touch it... ho hum, that'll be

PABSDIRECT - PA Business Systems - Retford, Notts

would like to take this opportunity to write a quick guide on the above company - if you are in the process of, or are planning to purchase from them either direct or via E-bayNote that the below is my own experience (and it was a costly one) and may not relfect the general operations of this company. I STRONGLY advise looking at the NEGATIVE FEEDBACK this company has (and they have a lot!)This company mainly seem to sell REFURBISHED electrical products - I have no doubt that they do sell new also, but the 3 x products I purchased from them were all boxed, however one was broken, one was different spec (lower) to that what was listed, and the other was out of stock. The 2 x items delivered were clearly refurbed models (or at least had been out of the box, had multiple fingermarks etc and didnt have protective LCD plastics fixed etc) - they were advertised as 'NEW IN BOX' but sadly didnt meet that description!Note my experience also:1) I was expected to pay postage for the faulty item to be returned2) I never received replies to my E-mails regarding the different (lower) spec'd item that wase sent incorrectly3) I had previously checked that the 3rd item was in stock before bidding, but it never arrived with the courier (CityLink). The listing stated 'next day delivery if payment before 2pm. This was done, and I waited in for delivery - a wasted day as it never arrived.Eventually, I had to trawl through Paypal disputes to get a refund for the 'out of stock' item. This company were appauling in their communications about the problems I had.It may be that this company are listing and/or selling items that are due in stock (but they dont seem to know when thay will be arriving) - and making promises about delivery that they cannot honour.Of course, you make up your own mind, but expect your product (if it arrives!) - possibly not to be new (ie refurb) - and if anything goes wrong (check the negative feedback) you may then find that communications with the company is very bad, and you may have to go through E-bay/Paypal for any refunds/disputesI note that this company has also been mentioned (for poor customer service/products) in the Packard-Bell forums and are mentioned as 'to avoid' in other AV forums.Again, my (and others) experiences may have been just unlucky - but I feel that writing this guide may help others

The RGB inputs were always active and the fast blanking signal 'punches holes' in the composite video. The SCART connector uses this to overlay subtitles from an external Teletext decoder.0 V-0.4 V means composite with a transparent RGB overlay. 1 V-3 V (nominal 1 V) RGB only. There is no switching signal to indicate S-Video. Some TVs can auto detect the presence of the S-Video signal but more commonly the S-Video input needs to be manually selected.

Postage and packing rip offs: eBay ignores this scam

Most eBayers have probably come across excessive charging for postage and handling on eBay. The excuse given for this is generally that the charge is higher than postage costs in order to take account of handling fees, packaging, eBay and Paypal fees. To some extent this is true, as the Royal Mail become ever more greedy, and eBay take their 30% through listing, final andPaypal fees. However, fee avoidance through excessive postage is not accepteable. It is generally traders and online shops that do this, in fact many of them are Power Sellers and eBay do not appear to care, or rather make too much money from these characters to do anything about it. Although eBay markets itself as a community it is a business at the end of the day, here to make money and nothing more. After all, they wouldn't run this site for nothing. I have complained on numerous occasions regarding excessive postage, only to find that the same trader is selling the same goods at excessive prices a week later. I actually got so fed up with this I spent hours submitting numerous complaints about the same shop, only for it to be ignored.eBay have a handy get out clause for addressing complaints as they trot out the standard 'can't comment on individual cases blah blah' via email when a complaint is lodged. This effectively gives you no clue as to the efficacy of your complaint, or of Bay's honesty in dealing with it. By that standard, eBay obviously feel that

DMX lights, the basics

Before DMX:In the past disco effects were pretty much stand alone, they would either be just switched on or off, or have their own microphone doing their own sound to light. Of course, different effects in different places would pick up different sound levels, and they would all operate independently.Stage lighting was even more difficult, with massive "dimmer racks" by the side of the stage, and miles of wires connecting them to a lighting desk further back from the stage. The DMX solution:DMX uses a single cable to control 512 channels of light control. A simple dimmer might use a single channel per light to control the brightness. A scanner might use many channels for a single unit, one channel for each of: brightness, Gobo (pattern) selection, colour, X position, Y position, zoom, rotation speed, etc. etc. Even with 8 channels per unit you can still control 64 unit from a single cable.DMX Cabling:The official DMX standard is for a 5-pin XLR connector, carrying two seperate DMX channels (or two copies of the same signal allowing for a primary and backup). But most of the lights and controllers you will find on eBay use a 3 pin XLR, which allows the use of microphone cables (not officially, but over reasonable lengths it works fine). Watch out because there are two incompatible ways to wire the 3-way connector. For instance to mix Chauvut and Abstact equipment you need a cable with two of the wires swapped over. Each of the lights has an input and an output. You run a lead from the controller

Update 30/11/2007 - More news on BBC FreeSat (at end)Digital Switch OverWith Digital TV now reaching about 70% of UK homes and Analogue Switch Off looming ever closer everyone needs to be aware of one very simple fact IF YOU DO NOT ACT SOON YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE ANY TELEVISION PROGRAMMESAnd if that is not clear enough, let me put it another way. It means; No BBC1.No BBC2,No ITV.No Channel 4.No Five.No more Doctor Who or New Tricks or Eastenders. No more University Challenge or Egg Heads or Natural World. No more Coronation Street or Kingdom or The Bill.No more Countdown. No more House or Shark or CSI or Law and Order. In short. Nothing. That's Right, Nothing! If you do not have some means of receiving Digital TV you will get Zip. Zilch. Nada. No TV at all just 24 hour snow on all channels. Here in the South West TV Region the analogue television signals will be switched off in 2009 so we have about two years to sort things out...People in the Meridian, London, Tyne Tees and Ulster TV regions have got it easy, they have until 2012 before they go Digital and lose their analogue signals. However people in the Border TV region better start worrying as they will be losing their signal next year! What Do I Need To Do?Well, that depends if you want to continue watching television on not.If you don't then just sit back and do nothing. All your analogue TVs, VCRs, DVD / HDD recorders will be turned into glorified snow machines because that will be all you will be able to receive on them! No TV, just snow...However, if you DO want to continue watching television programmes [and I assume the majority of you do] you will need to buy some digital TV equipment. Exactly what, and how much you spend, depends on a number of things; How many televisions do you have?Do they have SCART or S-Video sockets? How many VCRs do you have?Do they have SCART or S-Video sockets?Do you have any HDD / DVD Recorders?Do they have SCART or S-Video sockets?Do you have SKY / Satellite?Do you have a viewing card?Solutions. There are basically three ways of receiving Digital TV in the UK;Freeview using a Set Top BoxFreeview using a Digital TVDigital SatelliteThe Set Top BoxThese are, usually, little Boxes that sit on Top of your television Set [hence the name].Their sole purpose is to convert those new fangled digital signals coming down your aerial wire that your analogue televsion simply doesn't understand into good old analogue signals that they do. Nice and Simple.Pros:CheapSimple to connectOften have good AV connectivityCan [usually] control a VCR through SCARTRF Out [if available] can feed the same signal to another TV, VCR, UHF distribution amplifier etc.Cons:It's a separate box which needs its own power socketAs such it needs to be connected to the TV, VCR etc. by SCART / aerial lead etc.It needs to be visible for remote control operationSome can be complicated to be program for timed recordingsThe Digital TelevisionThis is the new generation of television. They only understand digital transmissions. Plug them into the mains, connect up the aerial and voila! Digital Television in all its glory!Pros:The simplest way of getting Digital TVNeat and convenient in a single packageCons:ExpensiveIf used with a VCR via SCART will only record the progamme being watched on the TVDigital SatelliteWhen analogue TV is finally switched off in 2012 there will be quite a large number of homes [including the whole of the UK Channel Islands!] who will not be able to get Freeview. For these people there may be no option but to go with Digital Satellite. There will be three options available;BBC FreeSatSky FreeSatSkyBBC FreeSatThis is a 'not for profit' consortium headed by the BBC and the other ITV companies are already joining up. The aim is to produce an alternative to Sky and all current terrestial TV channels have either signed up or have indicated they will sign up when their existing contracts with Sky expire.A Freesat STB will be required to view this service which will have its own EPG (Electronic Programme Guide). The boxes are to be manufactured by third parties and sold in shops and other retail outlets. This is the same distribution model that has worked so well for Freeview. The basic service is guaranteed to be Free To Air (FTA) with the only costs being a one off charge for the STB and installation of the dish. It is highly likely that the platform will be used to add additional Pay TV channels in the same way that 'Top Up TV' has been piggy backed onto the basic Freeview service.Current indications are that the service will be launched in Spring 2007 and fully operational by Autumn 2008 but as STBs are not yet available this may be subject to change. The fact that the BBC are fully committed to this service (which has the backing of their Trust) and the other terrestial broadcasters are interested in saving the fees they currently pay to Sky for the use of their service bodes well for the success of the FreeSat service. Additional BBC channels including quality HD content will be added as the service matures. When available, the BBC FreeSat service will most probably be the best choice for the majority of people unable to get Freeview.Pros:No ongoing subscription charges for basic channel package. Will support HDTV.Cons:Not yet available.Full channel line up not yet known.STB features and facilities not yet known.Sky FreeSatThis is the Sky service which allows you to watch Free To Air (FTA) and Free To View (TFV) channels carried by Sky for a one off charge. Green laser pointers

All you wanted to know about green laser pointersAbout green laser pointersGreen laser pointers have been around for a few years but what are they? We have all seen the red laser pointer but green is completely different. The most common type are DPSSFD, ( diode pumped solid state frequency-doubled). They are much more complicated than standard red laser pointers because laser diodes are not commonly available in this wavelength range and are more expensive to produce. They are also 50 times brighter than red. With green laser's, you can see the beam as well as the very bright dot. Green laser pointers are the preferred laser pointer because green is the most visible laser pointer color. The reason why green is more visible is the human eye is most sensitive to green light. The other reason is the effect of light in the earth's atmosphere. Light is visible in the sky when the atmosphere scatters it and higher wavelengths are scattered more than higher wavelengths. Green is a medium wavelength so it scatters more and is more visible than longer wavelengths such as red.Class 3B lasers may have an output power of up to 500 mW (half a watt) and a laser with an output power of around 100mW and above is easily capable of melting black plastic, making holes in bin liners and popping black coloured balloons or balloons marked with a black marker pen. To give you an idea of what to expect, if you were to enter a room that is pitch black and used the laser on the ceiling, you would be able to see everything in the room. The beam would also be very visible looking like a green rod stretching out. When used outside, the beam seems to reach the stars. The power output of laser's are measured in mW (milliWatts) and can range from 5mW to around 300mW. of course the more power you have, the easier they will burn and the brighter they are.Infra red filter warningLaser pointers give out a lot of infrared light which you can't see making them less bright. Laser power meters however cannot distinguish between green light and infrared light. Some inferior laser pointer will normally be made up of mostly infrared light. For example a 100mW inferior laser pointer is likely to have a combination 20mW green (532nm) and 80mW infrared (808nm). All genuine green laser pointers and portable lasers have infrared filters inside them that blocks infrared light. Some laser pointers have had this filter removed or have been manufactured without the filter. Without this filter, these laser pointers are very dangerous because the infrared light can damage your eyes. All the laser pointers we sell contain the correct IR filter. What to look out for when buyingI have recently noticed cheap fake laser pointers selling at lower than trade prices. i.e. 100mw for about

Par Can Lighting - Explained!

OriginThe PAR can is an entertainment lighting fixture containing a PAR lamp. PAR is actually an abbreviation of Parabolic Aluminised Reflector; this reflector houses the bulb, and the whole unit is sealed with a glass front which acts a lens. The PAR lamp and the PAR can come in a variety of different sizes; the most common in the entertainment industry are PAR64, PAR56, PAR36, PAR30, PAR20 and PAR16 - the numbers referring to the diameter of the lamp in eighths of an inch. PAR56 Long and Short Nose The larger PAR64 and PAR56 cans are often seen in banks on stage, providing the basis of most gig lighting. They are both available with either a long or short nose - the shorter nose providing a wider beam angle - and also as a floor can model which has two yoke arms, allowing it to sit on the floor without the use of a stand. The PAR36 is often seen in nightclubs lighting mirrorballs; its 6.4volt / 30 watt lamp gives an extremely narrow beam and it is more commonly called a

Why the second input on your new Sky isn't working.

If youbuy a new or second hand Sky box on eBay you willusually look at the signal strength and quality for both inputs (Sky boxes have two inputs while ordinary Sky boxes have just one input). To do this press 'Services' then 4 then 6. You may well see that the No.2 input shows as not working, DEAD! At the same time you will find that you can only view OR record one channel at a time, not both together which you should be able to do. If this happens to you DON'T PANIC (yet)! The reason is often very simple - until you get Sky to turn on the recording part of Sky for you it is very common for the second input to appear dead. We aren't sure why this happens but it does and all you need to do is ring Sky and get the box transferred to your name and the recording switched on for you, then follow the instruction below to get both inputs working together. Remember if you transfer your standard Sky card into a Sky receiver you will only be able to watch the non-premium channels that you subscribe to (such as Sky1, UK Gold, etc.) until you get your old card "married" to the new Sky box. So after ringing Sky you need to get the box to actually USE both inputs at the same time. The easiest way to do this is to set the box up to record two channels at the same time by pressing the R button on two seperate channels. Suddenly input No2 will come alive and will STAY alive even after you stop the recording! Please note if it is input one that appears dead or both inputs were working and one suddenly stops then you have a real problem - now it's time to panic! The cause COULD be as simple as a loose plug on the back of the Sky box or a problem with the double or quad LNB. Follow the Sky "connection check". It's a bit simplistic but does check these points for you. Try swapping the input 1 lead to input 2 and vice versa. If the fault carries accross with the swap then you can work out whether it's your Sky box or the LNB (or LNB lead) at fault. If you have an early Amstrad make of Sky box then these have a known fault which can cause signals to first be unreliable and then drop out permanently (sometimes on one input but often on both inputs). The cause of this is component breakdown due to excess heat. If you are abroad let your Sky box breathe by NOT putting it in a sealed cabinet!

FAKES - spot and avoid them

After having purchased a second fake brand-name rucksack, I have decided to try writing an eBay purchasing guide of my own.Imitations or clones of various brands is okay, in my eyes, if the item is not advertised as the real thing AND the buyer is aware that what they are buying is not the real thing. However, when an item is advertised as real, original and 'BNWT' (brand new with tags), but it's a definite fake, there's a serious problem. You'd be suprised what factories can copy, modify and produce thesedays. Golf clubs, trainers, luggage and more are all relatively easy tofake and sell to unsuspecting consumers. Telltale signs something you're interested in is a fake:1. The Price. If that 'official BMW cap' is just a penny, it's probably a fake. Brand-name jeans are especially susceptible to cheap fakes. This is a very obvious sign you're looking at a fake.2. The product advertised does not exist. Do a web search with the brand name and product name or model number. If the product only shows up on eBay, it's possibly a fake. If non-eBay web shops don't carry the exact product, it's probably a fake. If the official company website doesn't list the exact same product, it's most likely a fake. To absolutely confirm a fake product, call or email the company and ask if the product you are looking at is in their product range. If it was recently discontinued, the item in question is likely authentic. If the product never existed then delete the item from your Watch list!OK, let's say you've purchased the item even after ignoring the warning signs. How can you tell it's a fake? 1. Shoddy workmanship. Bad or uneven stitching, cuts in the fabric, loose threads or stitches, mould seam lines in strange places, etc. In general, if you get a bad feeling about the product upon first glance, don't be optimistic about owning a real item.2. Bad printing on the information tag (the thin cardboard tag with product information). Read the product tag carefully. If the grammar is bad, the font type is strange or different to other items from the same company (most companies have official fonts they use), the colour print is offset, etc., you're holding a fake in your hands. 3. Obvious quality errors. Assume you purchased a top-of-the-line outdoor trekking jacket or top-quality sunglasses. If the logo stitching can be seen through the multiple layers of the jacket, or the logo on the glasses is loose or easily scratched, you've got a fake. What can you do? Now that you know you have a fake, what recourse do you have? 1. Ask the seller for a refund. I was able to get a begrudging refund from the first person I bought a fake from, simply by acting stupid and saying I didn't expect this top-quality rucksack to break on its first day of use. Feel the seller out and try to word your message nicely, especially if you have already left feedback for them.2. Report the seller to eBay or the company whose fakes are being sold. If you get no joy from the seller, mention that you will report them to eBay or someone else. If they have a store or high feedback they will likely back down and offer you your money back. Asking for the postage you paid is cheeky but they may refund that as well. Don't expect to have them pay for postage back to them, either.3. If the seller is local to you or you can contact their local authorities, you can report them to the police or Customs officials. Realistically the authorities probably won't have the time to investigate this one seller, but with enough complaints they will eventually take a look. Remember, it's all about karma! :)About clone or copy itemsIt's easy these days to get cheap iPod imitations that aren't advertised as real iPods but supposedly function just the same or better. My suggestion for any imitations or copies of popular items like this is to do a web search for the exact item name with the word 'review'. You will usually find someone's website or a web forum that mentions 'I bought such-and-such and it said it would do this but it doesn't work as advertised, etc.' It's easier to find reviews of electronic gadgets like MP3 players because the 'net is very tech-heavy, but a simple 2-minute search online can perform wonders...and save you plenty of money!I hope this is a helpful guide to spotting fakes on eBay, or even at market stalls and other offline shops. It's always been 'buyer beware', and with the ease and temptation of buying online, sight unseen, the need to be wary of what you buy is even more important.

FEEDBACK- WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR

Dont fall for the "I WILL LEAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ONCE I HAVE RECEIVED YOURS" SCAMMORE AND MORE SELLERS ARE USING THIS-BUT ASK YOURSELF WHY?They are pushing you for positive feedback before you have a proper chance to test your purchases.once you leave this -if you have later problems there is very little you can do to warn others or get them to rectify your problems.once you notify them about problems you then enter a very lengthy time wasting excessive to try andestablish the cause of your problems-but they have no genuine interest in this-just to span out the time untill its too late to use the pay-pal protection scheme.you are also then liable for posting your goods back and forth.IF YOU LEAVE NEGATIVE -they will leave worse comments on your account They then hope you want to get this removed-so theirs is removed also (mutual consent-or blackmail tactics?)When checking feedback scores look for the hidden retractions-these are all unhappy buyers who in most cases are bullied into retracting their comments Look to see the comments they have left for other people who left them negative and judge for yourself their reasons.JSM Distributors amongst many others i have noticed use this tactic, yet i know now of many unhappy clients with broken machines etc that cant get any satisfaction with sorting out problems.I myself was very lucky as i had my money refunded by pay pal, yet you only have very limited time from purchase date to use this route. Pleas read my review on the above mentioned company. since writing it i have had contact with no less than 10 people -some who admit to foolishly leaving feedback too soon.Once notified of problems you then enter a very lengthy time scale to get answers etc-these delaying tactics are deliberately used to stop you making even a paypal claim within the time scale. So my advice to all -if your sellers states this "i will leave positive feedback when i have received yours" look for retractions and bide your time, A good seller has no reason to leave any bad comment once you have paid them have they? As far as they should be concerned you have fulfilled your part of the bargain so WHY DO THEY WANT TO WAIT? -So they can retaliate if they dont like yours-its as simple as that! WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE ?Also check very carefully the returns policy-who is liable for the costs etc? what can you do if you are still not satisfied? What happens if they still say its in good working order even though you know it isnt ? or when your goods are returned back to you and still dont work ? or worse still more damaged than ever? Some companies claimto have checked the goods and can find nothing wrong-blame user error and you are then also liable for their engineers labour costs as well.some of these companies have terms and conditions that are simply wrong and you may as well kiss your money goodbye.SO please friends-We all like good feedback, but THINK BEFORE YOU HIT THAT BUTTON.PLEASE_IF ONLY FOR EVERYONE ELSES SAKE.Lets stop these tactics on ebay they are ruining what was funDONT EXPECT EBAY TO DO ANYTHING EITHER

Sky Digibox Viewing card

There seems to be confusion over viewing cards. Lets end it here. Any sky subscription card will only work with the digibox it was supplied with and will only work as long as the subscriber keeps paying the subscription. The way round this is to buy something called a "Freesat" viewing card which works in any digibox anywhere in range of the satellite (ie Spain, France, UK etc). This is totally transferable to any box anywhere in your house or your mates house because there are no subscription charges. The Freesat card costs between

Open Reel Recording Tape

Hopefully this short article will help some eBayers whom are unsure about what type of tape to use on their recorders. If you have a tape recorder that has' pressure pads' which press onto the record.and or playback head, you should only use glossy backed recording tape, otherwise if you use a 'back coated 'type of tape- a build up from it will contaminate and eventually clog the pressure pads, which will then need to be replaced. If you have a tape recorder that doesn't use pressure pads against the record.and or playback heads, then you should ideally use a back coated tape, although you can use glossy as well.Types of tapes and reasons for using :Glossy Tape (non backcoated): Used on all domestic recorders since the year dot!,comes in standard play ,long play, double play, triple play.Advice : try and use standard play tape if you can (although if you have a four track recorder-then LP tape may be better).Main reason for Standard Play: less likely to deteriorate with time, less print through, lessprone to damage, and will spool better.Matt Backed Tape (backcoated): Normally used on professional recorders-that don't use pressure pads, but rely on tape to head contact/back tension etc.Normally supplied in standard play length. Most backcoated tapes will spool smoothly (although brand types such as Ampex and Scotch won't- and will 'leaf' badly) Tape Durations (Recording on one side of the tape only)a 10.5 inch Reel of Standard Play tape Running at 15ips will last for 32 mins (2'400 ft on reel)a 7" reel of standard play tape running at 7.5 ips will last for 32 mins (1200 ft on reel)a 7" reel of Long Play play tape running at 7.5 ips will last for45 mins (1800 ft on reel)Above is only a rough guide - there are other reel sizes, andalso other thicknesses of tape as mentioned, however you can get an idea of running times from above.if you feel this guide was of some help please tick the 'yes' box below- this way more 'viewers' willnotice the guide. Watch out for import PS2 / XBOX games DVD's !!

GAMES:There are hundreds, even thousands if PS2 and Xbox games on ebay, but sometimes unless you look closely you may have bought the wrong item!!Here in the UK our games consoles (PS2 / XBOX / XBOX 360) areREGION 2 (PAL).With PSP it doesent matter what region it is for games, only movies which have to be region 2 (uk). Some sellers are selling Region 1 games for lower prices, but they are hard to spot because they sometimes dont say in the main description, only in the small area above next to the genre etc. or sometimes they write it in small print at the bottom. So remember if you are buying a game for a UK games console (excluding PSP) try to buy from the UK and make sure it is REGION 2 (PAL) which is the UK StandardDVD's:Here in the UK most of our DVD players are REGION 2, but there are many sellers from America and other countries like China selling DVD's but they are not Region 2. America is REGION 1 and will not work on most DVD Players, and it plays in NTSC which will display in black on white on most UK televisions, although many TV's nowsupport NTSC (USA, Canada) and PAL (UK).Check if you're DVD Playercan play DVD'sfrom different regions (is it region free) as many can, butif not or you do not know I advise you dontbuy the DVD unless it is REGION 2 (UK - STANDARD)HOPE THIS HELPS ** KEEP EBAYING!! **

Silver Oxide (SR) VS Alkaline (AG) Watch Batteries

Silver Oxide vs Alkaline Watch BatteriesAlkaline batteries are defined by the letters AG in front of them, IEAG1 AG2 AG3 etcYou should NEVER use Alkaline cells in watches for 3 very good reasons1: Alkaline batteries are 1.5 Volts, NOT 1.55 Volts, your watch was designed to run on this very specific voltage, underpowering it can cause it to keep incorrect time.2: The major component of an Alkaline battery is sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, if the battery should leak inside your watch, it could completely damage your watch beyond repair.3: Silver Oxide batteries have a very "flat" voltage profile, this means they keep producing 1.55v until they are exhausted, alkaline batteries have a "curved" voltage profile which means as they discharge the voltage becomes lower, sometimes as little as 0.5 volts, most watches will stop working at 1.3Volts or less.

Philips Streamium WACS700

Just thought I would share this with those of you considering the Philips Streamium. Have you checked out the reviews on Amazon? I think you should. The Philips may look great as a fashion statement but there are serious problems that could affect your enjoyment, particularly if you buy off ebay with limited guarantees. It has come down in price for a reason or 2. Faults. Don't get me wrong it could be great but make it has the latest Firmware Upgrade. Secondly it has a very noisy fan to cool the main unit. Not great in the bedroom which is where I wanted it to drift of to sleep!!!Thirdly it has a habit of jamming or not reading the CD. You could simply end up with a very nice looking radio. Style isn't everything but if you can sacrifice looks for practicalityand you NEED a hard drive go for the Hitachi AX140, it also plays DVDs!!! Please read Amazon reviews and think before you buy.

If you have ever searched for wholesale ipods or wholesale xbox's etc, that start at 99p or similarly very low then 99% of these are scams. The most common scam is that the account has been stolen and someone is listing hundreds of items to try and steal as much money as possible in the shortest possible time, these often do not finish as hundreds of ebay members report them and ebay usually get there act together and remove the listing.HOWEVER, an ever more increasing problem are apparently genuine ebayers with good feedback selling 10 ipods starting at

CR123a Batteries

Many customers ask me about Rechargeable CR123a Batteries that they've seen on eBay and seem a little confused.CR123a LITHIUM batteries are used in Fenix torches, Surefire, Wolfeyes, Ultrafire, the list goes on. They are 3volt and usually are 1300mAh (Milliamps)Please understand I do not wish to patronise, however:V for Voltage = Power (or if you like the STRENGTH of a Battery.)mAh for Milliamps = Runtime (or STAMINA of a battery)Now then, the Power (V) is Important, that is what the device, in this case an LED Torch needs to make it work.A torch that uses 2 x CR123a batteries is using 2 x 3V Cells (another name for battery) the Total Voltage then is... 6V, correct. Now if these batteries are rated at 1300mAh each,, the total in mAh is? 2600mAh, right.WHAT IS THE POINT?I'm getting there...Rechargable CR123a are NOT LITHIUM, they are Lithium Ion or Li-Ion or In some cases NiMh, Nickel Metal Hydride. These are made as 3V batteries, but the MILLIAMPS are less, usually 600 - 680mAh.* * Side Note * *

BOOTLEG/PIRATED VIDEO

More than half of the vhs sellers on Ebay are selling bootlegs - otherwise known as pirated or copies. They buy a brand new sealed movie at top price and then they make copies and resell them as used either stating in a rental box, or showbox, or hardcase orclamshell-Most movies that come in clamshells and are not stated as rentals are bootleg and not only illegal, but against ebay policy- this is not to be confused with legitimate studio released videos that do come in clamshells ie: Disney and a lot of other Children's videos- always ask if it's instudio issued packaging, as opposed to...Color copy artwork inserted is another hint- If it's a studio original, where's the original box?Look for expensive/rare movies shown at an unbelievably low prices- if it's too good to be true it probably is.Also look at quantities- 20 copies listed in clamshells is a good indicator- if the moviesare rare, how did this seller get so many and why are they not in their original cardboard sleeve? No box at all is suspiciousYou need to email these sellers w/questions before you bid, for your own good- no reply? they are avoiding you!! The best way to look at intruder alarms

Hi all, here is a little bit of thought for an alarm system once read if you could please rate this helpful or unhelpful as you find and read it thanksAlways plan ahead, Never ever get some thing that should just do the job ( most likely it will until you leave it on holiday then it goes completely wrong) Alarms are becoming more and more of a necessary, Insurance demands and personal security both are essential parts of an alarms life but very rare do the two go together quite as good as it seems,There are two main areas in which to look at in both the planning and installation process, *When planning your alarm system look for the most valuable areas of the building, But then look at how you were to get there and what else some one breaking in might possible find on route, i.e. The lounge/sitting room: most likely one of the main areas of both personal belongings and also the highest value, ( Don't forget unless you take time and stealth away from the burglar the more time they have at looking and doing damage) is also more central in the building meaning the intruder has full roam to the building i.e. hallways in which clocks, Paintings ect. are on show, Remember most insurance companies only look at areas of

Identifying fake Sennheiser CX 400 earphones (hi res)

When I was researching on how to find if you've got a pair of genuine or fake Sennheiser CX 400, I simply couldn't find a guide anywhere that had photos good enough to see any difference. So, I managed to get a pair of fake and another pair of genuine headphones, and decided to come in to the rescue by taking a number of decent images and put them here. Since eBay shrinks the images you upload here to a miniscule size, I had to break the eBay policy, and post external links under the images that point to their supersized versions. In the following shot, the left earphone is fake, while the right one is genuine. Notice the cheap logo printing and the lack of smoothness in the plastic finish.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/BigRiz/Sennheiser CX 400/phones-back.jpgThe following shot shows the earphones from the front. The left one is fake. Notice the different shape of the grille. The genuines have a rounded grille, while the fakes are more or less flat.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/BigRiz/Sennheiser CX 400/phones-front.jpgThe following shows the difference in the pouches. The one on top is from the fake set. The genuine set has a genuine leather pouch. This is easily identifiable. The logo on the fake pouch looks too smooth and shiny since it's simply molded in the plastic, while the logo on the genuine leather pouch shows some minor defects in the material. Leather also creases differently.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/BigRiz/Sennheiser CX 400/pouch.jpg

What is HDMI Upscaling 1080

Upscaling - Getting More Out Of Standard DVD What is HDMI upscaling? To maximize the quality of DVD for display on today's HDTVs, many manufacturers have introduced upscaling capabilities through DVI and/or HDMI output connections on newer DVD players. Upscaling is a process that mathematically matches the pixel count of the output of the DVD signal to the physical pixel count on an HDTV, which is typically 1280x720 (720p), 1920x1080 (1080i), or 1920x1080p (1080p). The upscaling process does a good job of matching the upscaled pixel output of a DVD player to the native pixel display resolution of an HDTV capable television, resulting in better detail and color consistency. However, upscaling, as it is currently implemented, cannot convert standard DVD images into true high-definition images. In fact, although upscaling works well with fixed pixel displays, such as Plasma and LCD televisions, results are not always consistent on CRT-based high definition televisions

Playing a foreign DVD, region coding

Region coding and PAL / NTSC picture standards can be confusing. I hope this guide will help you understand their relevence to you.Region codes are designed to limit the areas of the world in which DVDs can be played:REGION 1 -- USA, CanadaREGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, GreenlandREGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East AsiaREGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, AfricaREGION 6 -- ChinaREGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special UseREGION 8 -- Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc.REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit. Why region coding? Why, when we could have had an international format such as CD audio, do DVDs have region coding to limit the regions of the world in which they can be played? Film companies claim it is to fit in with their worldwide staged release schedule for films. It costs a lot of money to produce the films for cinemas, so the films are usually produced and released in America first, then the same copies are distributed around the world. This means an American DVD release can sometimes occur when the film is just being released in the cinemas here, or not long after it has been released. They claimed region coding was necessary to preserve these markets. However, the more cynical among us think that if this was the only reason all 'old' releases would be in region 0 or All Region format - very few are! The real reason is probably more to do with preserving a varying price structure across the world, with those of us in the UK suffering higher retail prices - as usual. What can be done to get round this coding system?Purchase a multiregion player. Players sold inHigh Street stores in the UK are usually set to region 2 but, in most cases, can bemade 'region free' or 'multiregion' by typing in codes from your remote control.Use Google to search for 'multiregion hack' together with the make and model number of your player. You're most likely to be able to do this with 'unknown' or cheaper brands. Premium brandssuch as Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer

SPY CAMERA GLOSSARY OF TERMS AND BUYER INFO GUIDE

Hi , this is the second guide we have written about wireless pinhole spy camera's. Just from the amount of enquires that we recieve , we believe that this will be a usefull resource for those seeking to purchase one. KBC STORE guide to buying a Mini spy cameraCMOS or CCD ?Most of the camera's available to buy on eBay will have one of two chips, which is the componant of the camera which produces the images, also referred to as "the Image sensor". You will find the terms CMOS and CCD.CMOS stands for "complementary metal oxide semiconductor". CCD stands for "charge coupled device"So what's the difference? CMOS imaging sensor chips tend to be used in lower price items , as the quality is ok , but not great. It will be able to provide with good images , but we have found them to be less productive in conditions of varying light. Therefore, with that in mind, if you are going to be using the camera in a condition where the amount of light is constant and plentiful, like indoors with artificial light, they are a good option as they are really value for money.CCD however will provide you much more clarity and reliablity , interms of receiving a quality image. Due to advances in technology and design in the far east , you can buy camera's with these imaging sensors at good prices here on eBay. A camera which has CCD chip will always out perform a CMOS chip in quality of image and reaction to lighting changes. Good for indoors, better for outdoor conditions. Nearly all digital camera's these days will have this sort of chip. The size of the imaging sensor. You may see 1/4 inch ot 1/3 inch appearing after the the type of chip used in the camera. This relates to the size of the chip. In general , the larger the size the better quality images. But this is not always te case as advances in technology are now producing smaller chips which provide the same quality as 1/2 inch size one. TV lines The number of TV lines which are mentioned on these adverts refer to the picture resolution. TV lines is the way which the picture resolution is measured. The more TV lines you have , the better the resolution of the picture. Most camera's will have a standard resolution of around 380. If you find a camera with 420 , great this will provide you with great images. CCD chip camera's and Black and White camera's may have around 520 TV lines , which will offer you superb viewing resolution. It will be like watching your TV as a measure of quality.LUXThis is the measure of sensivity to light. A rating of 2 LUX means that the camera will function fairly well in a lit condition. We have tested this and have found you will need a similar amount of light available to that from a 40 watt bulb. The lower the LUX rating , the easier it is for the camera to work in low light condition. Most of the spy camera's indicate a LUX of 0.5, whcih means that they will be able to pick up images up until dusk, or on a dim night. You will night vision camera's have a LUX of 0 because they require no light at all. TV SYSTEMPAL is the tv system used in Europe , whcile in the USA you will NTSC. Make sure you check with the seller that the camera you are purchasing is compatitble and works in the UK. Most UK sellers based in the UK will only supply this type, but please check if you are buying from outside the UK, especially fromthe Far East !Power supply adaptersAll camera's and the receivers alike will need to be provided with a sustainable power source. Here there are two options, a power adapter or a battery clip. Most battery clips will operate from a 9 volt power source. This is great as it will allow the camera to operate in a mobile environment. The downside is that the camera needs a lot of power and the battery may only last up to three hours or so. Batteries are also expensive! The other option is to power the camera and receiver via a plug power adapter. Most sellers do not sell these with the camera kits as there are heavy and importing these goods from china gets shipping costs high. But some will, as us at KBC Stores. Always check thast the power adapter supplies a regulated power supply and that it has CE accreditation. This will ensure you safety when using the camera and will not fry the equipment. Other sources for power can be in the form of a cigerrette power converter. For those of you which want to use the camera outside and have the receiver hooked up to a monitor in your car, you can use this. Just check the power specification is correct on the car power converter. KBC Stores sells power converters with a manual selection so that you can use it to power a number of electronical items. How to check for quality before you buy?Always check the seller feedback . This provides you with a good indicator of there level of customer service and quality.Check to see if the seller has a free technical help desk.Is the seller located in the UK. You will liable for import tax and VAT if you purchase from outside the EU.This might be the most important , ENSURE THAT THE SELLER SELLS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR YOUR CAMERA. Should any of the parts get damaged while you are using them, if your seller does not sell spares , you will have to buy a whole new kit !Look at the images in the item description.....Does the camera kit come with an AV lead. whcih connects the receiver to the TV?Check for good quality workmanship and finishing. Check that the wired connections are properly fitted as they will wear the most when you are using the camera.PLEASE RATE THIS REVIEW BEFORE READING OUR OTHERS. THANK YOU FOR READING. amplifier/speaker power (Sound level)

When buying speakers think about the auditorium (room) that they are going to play in. The larger the room the greater the sound intensity they are going to have to provide to give an acceptable volume level. Most speakers will accept power levels far greater than their quoted RMS value but, and this is a big but the output from the amplifier must be clean i.e. undistorted ( a 30 watt amp running flat out will burn out a pair of speakerwhereas a 500 watt amp running at 125 watt is unlikely to do any damage, I have seen the damage an underpowered amp can do to speaker units). This brings us to efficiency (how good is a speaker at converting electrical energy into sound) the pinnacle is Lowther (PM6,7 etc.) an efficient speaker will require far less power (watts) for a given sound intensity level than an inefficient one. Most speakers are quoted as nn/db per watt, the bigger nn is then the more efficient the speakers are. My speakers are 83.5/db per watt and is about as low as they go, values over 90db/watt is the acceptable norm. TheLowthers are about 96db/watt, 3db represents a doubling of electrical power. At the end of the day buying an amplifier of greater output than your speakers might suggest taking will provide a better sound and last longer (much longer) than an underpowered amp into power thirsty speakers.

Amplifier and speaker matching

Pretty much ANY amp can drive ANY speaker - at low volume. Matching is only essential when you plan to drive your system close to its limits. There are a number of factors to bear in mind.Firstly speaker specifications will include how much power they can handle and what their impedance is. The power is quoted in Watts (W) and may bedescribed asRMS (meaning Root Mean Squared) or PEAK. The peak output is typically twice that of the RMS but this will vary depending on many things inherent with the speaker design. The impedance of the speaker is simplistically a measure of the electical resistance offered by the speaker coils when current is driven through them. Most cases of speaker damage are caused by using an amplifier that is under-powered. If you have, for example, speakers which can take 100W RMS and you are using a 20W amp, the "safe" region of your volume control is likely to be roughly one fifth of the way, assuming an even response to the volume knob. (20/100). The amplifier must provide the power to push the speaker coils in and out with the waveform signal for the music. If, at the peaks of the waveform the amp can't supply this power (because the volume is too high) then the waveform will "clip" with increasingly audible distortion. Clipping is harmful to speakers, and will usually damage the high frequency units (tweeters) first. Overdriving speakers with amps which are too powerful for them is also harmful. You must also consider what frequencies you are putting in the mix. Bass sounds have higher power demands than higher frequencies, so if you have the bass turned up high, your speakers are eating up more power at lower volumes.Damage to amplifiers is usually caused by speakers which have too low an impedance. For example connecting 2ohm speakers to an amp which can't drive anything less than 8ohm speakers. Effectively, you are short circuiting the output stage of the amplifier. In general terms, the safe thing to do is to buy amplifiers and speakes with similar power ratings, and make sure the power is at least twice as much as you are ever likely to use. In other words, the volume control knob should never go beyond the middle mark, and at that volume the sound should still be effortless, without distortion or other noises that indicate something in the system is working too hard. It is a bit like owning a car. You buy a car which has a large engine not because you will ever drive it at the top speeds it can theoretically do. But you buy it because when driving it at 80mph you still have heaps of reserves of power to use and the engine is not straining.

Recording CCTV Images

Recording CCTV Images Domestic VCRThe simplest low-cost solution is to use your home VCR. This will typically give 8 hours recording time and can be used in conjunction with a Video Activator to provide event-only recording. We sell wired and wireless kits consisting of cameras with built-in motion detectors plus VCR activators. Recording will automatically be triggered on motion detection. Advantages very low cost. Worth considering buying a seperate VCR for camera recording. This VCR can be hidden in the attic or a cupboard making it less likely to stolen by an intruder.Disadvantages most domestic recorders have a slow "take-up" time. (the time taken to start recording) - cannot use the VCR to record TV channel whilst camera input is selected. Time-lapse VCRSimilar to your home VCR but with a slower-moving tape that records the camera pictures as snapshots at split second intervals. The time-lapse can be set to give 24, 240 or 960 hours of recording on standard VCR tapes. Advantages very long recording time, cost-effective. Added features like alarms, auto tape-rewind. Disadvantages will need a quad processor or multiplexer when recording multiple cameras which adds to the cost of the system. the longer the recording time the longer the period of time between the snapshots. tapes do wear out through over use. DVRDigital Video Recorders can record images onto a built-in hard drive from one or more cameras. DVRs normally come combined with multiplexer functions and are generally considered the future of CCTV recording. DVRs can generally be split into two groups - standalone black box and PC-based solutions. PC-based solutions are discussed in their own section. Advantages all-in-one box for recording, multiplexing, alarms and motion detect. higher resolution than S-VHS VCR is possible near instant access to recording from known time and date no loss of quality when copies taken can record events in real-time before an alarm actually occurs with "Pre-event trigger" enhanced playback function, forward and reverse frame by frame playback easily connect to networks/internet for remote viewing and playback. PC-based SystemsIf you already have a PC then with the addition of a video-capture card and surveillance software you have a powerful digital system. The purchase of a video capture card and software is a very cost effective method of providing a high specification system. Advantages easy to expand 2 ports to 4, 8, or 16 ports. Simply buy another card remote viewing software allows for many configurations for monitoring e.g. quad display records in real time, simultaneously from all cameras time and date stamping with motion detect alert wizard, send email with photo or video clip, SMS alert audio alert motion detection recording featuring different sensitivity settings and masking feature. Only movement in the masked rectangle trigger a response. By careful positioning of the rectangles you can allow for pet movement within the observation area. a low-cost, all-in-one solution that does away with the need for separate motion detect, splitters, quads or multiplexers.

What is a Dvorak Keyboard?

Simply put, the Simplified Dvorak Keyboard is a standard keyboard that has the keys arranged in a manner that reduces finger and wrist movement. This layout has several proven benefits:faster typing speed (by up to 20%, sometimes more); increased accuracy (by up to 50%) - and long-term health benefits that go with a design that is optimised with the human user in mind. It's simply more comfortable to use than a QWERTY. And it's easier to learn!Tests have shown that the QWERTY layout is no better than any other random key layout as a text input tool for the English language. In contrast, the DVORAK layout is specifically designed for the human user of an electronic keyboard.Several hundred thousand Dvorak users agree that the Dvorak feels more comfortable to use.The Dvorak layout can increase your typing speed, as well as your typing accuracy. The true ergonomic design of the Dvorak reduces the distance your fingers travel and ensures that the work is shared more equally between the two hands. If you currently suffer from pain due to Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) - including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - it is possible that by using the Dvorak layout this pain will diminish, or even disappear entirely. The Dvorak layout has been around for 75 years this year (2007). And yet, relatively few computer users today have even heard of it.Three-quarters of a century of blindness to an obvious 'upgrade' in an era dominated by constant upgrades... what is it about Dvorak that makes it unappealing? Is it considered pass

HD Ready Projectors

In the UK, a product is not HD ready unless it can display at a resolution of at least 720p.720p translates to a resolution of at least 720 pixels high. (The 'p' stands for progressive scan.) The usual resolution for a widescreen 720p display is 1280 x 720. It's important to note that when a projector claims to be HD ready, it needs to have a native resolution of at least 720p, usually 1280x720 or higher. It's the vertical resolution - the 720 bit - which defines it as HD ready, however. Many projectors have been sold as HD ready which have lower native resolutions, such as 800x600, 800x480, or even 640x480. Whilst these projectors may in some cases still have a higher resolution than SD (Standard Definition) displays, they do not meet the criterion for being HD ready. Note that 1024x768 resolutions could technically be called 'HD Ready', but in practice will not display a 720p picture in widescreen format unless they stretch pixels. When looking for HD Ready projectors on ebay, you need to know that some projectors can support input of higher resolutions than they are capable of displaying. You might see these listed as 'supported resolutions'. Regardless of the input resolution, a projector literally cannot display the image at a resolution higher than its native resolution. When a projector with a native resolution of 800x600 is fed an image with a true HD source, the image will be resampled down to 800x600 resolution and quality will be lost. When thinking about buying an 'HD' projector, always check the native resolution of the projector. Always make sure that it is capable displaying 720p, not just 'supporting' it.

How to buy Hearing Aid Batteries on eBay

Here is a short guide to help you buy hearing aid batteries on eBay.
I hope you will find it useful.

First of all there are 4 type of batteries available, there are 2 ways of indentifying them: number and colour.

Size 10 with Yellow tab
Size 13 with Orange tab
Size 312 with Brown tab
Size 675 with Blue tab

Compatibility
Whatever brand you are currenly using, all others will be compatible as
long as the colour and number is matching yours. You should nevere
worry about compatibility between brands. Basically all size 10 with a
yellow tab WILL be compatible. Just like all AAA batteries are,
regardless of the brand.

All battery model will usually have a reference and the needed number
will be in that reference (size 10 battery can be a 10A, AE10, ZA10,
etc....).

In case of doubt, ask the seller. Professional sellers will usually
come back to you withing a couple of hours with the response (during
normal office hours).
Quality
The tougher one! Which batteries to buy?
Should it be Rayovacs, Duracel or the Earpower ones? or no branded ones??

Personally, I would suggest a couple of very important points here regardless of brands.

- Make sure you buy from a reputable source, sellers with very high positive feedbacks (98% minimum!).

- Ensure that the batteries on offer are the freshest possible.
Reputable sellers advertise their "sell-by-date" on all hearing aids
batteries listings. Some sellers advertise 3 years shelf life, some
others have just a few months left. The latter is not good of course.
Their pricing might look interesting but overall, if the batteries dont
last as long, they turn up pricier!
This is very important because of the way these batteries work. They
are known as zinc-air batteries, meaning, that in order to release
energy, they need to be activated by air. Hence the sticker on the back
of the battery. Once removed, it releases the air inside and the
battery starts working. It works great, but, the sticker cannot be 100%
air proof when attached to the battery, meaning that over time, the
batteries loose on effectiveness! Ensure you buy the freshest ever and
avoid sellers not advertising this date (there are quite a few of
them!!)

- Avoid sellers from far flung places like China or Hong Kong. Price
migh seem interesting but once costs of shipping has been added, they
always turn out pricier.
Also you are not guaranteed to get them, there is a lot of postal losses etc...
These sellers cannot offer any form of guarantee. Say your battery
damages your expensive privately bought device, who will pay for the
repairs? Only EU based sellers can offer a suitable guarantee / cover.

- Avoid non professional sellers like the plague. These sellers sell
without any registrations, this is black economy, these people do not
pay taxes and cannot offer any warranty/guarantee either.

- Avoid "end of line" resellers or people selling bankrupt items etc...
Easy to find out, check their other items for sale and if they sell
hearing aods batteries alongside toothpaste and DVDs, you know that
they are trading in anything they can put their hands on. That also
means that they dont know where the itmes come from, how they were
stored etc... They probably will not be in a position to provide any
satisfying support as they don't know much about hearing aids...

Now about quality of batteries!

I use size 10 and have tried quite a few brands over the years: Rayovac, Duracell, Panasonic, PowerOne, Renata and EarPower.
Overall, I have paid anything from

Choosing an amplifier power for my speaker system...

Ideally you should pick an amplifier that can deliver power equal to twice the speaker's continuous IEC power rating. This means that a speaker with a "nominal impedance" of 8 ohms and a continuous IEC power rating of 350 watts will require an amplifier that can produce 700 watts into an 8 ohm load. For a stereo pair of speakers, the amplifier should be rated at 700 watts per channel into 8 ohms.
A quality professional loudspeaker can handle transient peaks in excess of its rated power if the amplifier can deliver those peaks without distortion. Using an amp with some extra "headroom" will help assure that only clean, undistorted power gets to your speakers. Some professional amplifiers are designed so they have additional headroom. These amps can cleanly reproduce transient peaks that exceed the amplifier's rated power. In this case select a model with an output power rating equal to the continuous IEC power rating of the speaker. Consult the amplifier manufacturer or owner's manual to learn more.
In some applications, such as critical listening in a studio environment, it is important to maintain peak transient capability. For these applications, use an amplifier that can deliver 6db (or four times as much) more power than the continuous IEC power rating.
If budget restraints or legacy equipment force you to use an amplifier with less power, extreme care should be taken to see that the amplifier is not driven into clipping. It may surprise you to learn that low power can result in damage to your speaker or system.
